The Role

As part of DFS Composites continuous growth thanks to its recent success in the aerospace industry, the company is looking to expand its automation and electrical design capabilities to develop complex and innovative automation systems to a wide range of customers. The industries will range from Composite manufacturing, wind energy up to Aerospace.

The role will consist of developing the electrical systems of a product from initial concept to installation as part of a NPI Process with a multidisciplinary team including control, mechanical engineers and operations (Supply Chain, Production, Quality).

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed electrical design calculations, drawings, and specifications, ensuring compliance with relevant codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., IEE, IEC, BS standards).
  • Develop electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts using CAD software.
  • Develop interconnecting looms and circuitry as part of the whole system using CAD.
  • Specify electrical components and routing interacting within a mechanical system.
  • Prepare calculations for wire load and relevant documentations to comply with CE, BS or UL Standards.
  • Provide technical advice and guidance on electrical systems during all project phases, from concept through to build and commissioning.
  • Review project plans, specifications, and proposals to ensure compliance with electrical system design standards.
  • Foster a collaborative environment that encourages growth and knowledge sharing.
  • Coach less experienced engineers locally and internationally.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Multidisciplinary Engineers, Operations and Project Managers, to integrate electrical systems.
  • Ensure all electrical designs adhere to health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Develop test and validations methodology, criteria based on DFMEA and product specifications.
  • Conduct electrical load calculations and fault analysis to ensure system safety and reliability.
  • Perform risk assessments to identify potential electrical hazards and design mitigating solutions.
  • Work with the commissioning team to troubleshoot and resolve any issues during the testing phase.
  • Carry out electrical testing and modification as required during the testing phase.
  • Develop Electrical design tools, process and ensure alignment with company internal processes as well as ISO/AS Standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of electrical designs, Software management tools, changes, and approvals.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for internal stakeholders and clients.
  • Provide regular progress updates and technical reports to the project team.

     Qualifications and Experience

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree minimum in electrical, automation or robotics engineering.
  • Proven track record of electrical installations having designed from initial concept, manufacturing, and up to final installation within an automation & industrial sector.
  • Experience of using E-Plan Electric, Pro Panel and Harness ProD.
  • Experience in designing complex control panels with automations, safety controls and low voltage (up to 1000V) requirements.
  • Experience in designing connecting looms/harnesses interconnecting control panels and customer interfaces.
  • Experience with PLC and HMI programming with Schneider or Siemens products.
  • Able to read and understand a mechanical drawing.
  • Able to work individually on projects with minimal supervision.
  • Able to coach other team members and junior engineers.
  • Able to carry out fluid and structured presentations to a wide audience including board members and customers.
  • Able to travel internationally as part of the allocated project deliverables.
  • Driving license, able to drive a company car when required for a project.
  • BS 7671 (18th Edition) Certification.

Optional

  • Experience with Composite Manufacturing (Glass or Carbon fibres).
  • Experience with high voltages (over 1000V).
  • Experience with SolidWorks CAD systems and PDM.
  • Experience with Robotics and Mechatronics
  • Experience in AS9100 aerospace industry.
